Let Freedom Ring

Ps. 33:12

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people he chose for his inheritance.

Our church is big fan of doing the patriotic songs and Memorial Day we do a full-on presentation with flags etc. And our pastor is an even bigger fan of asking for "BIG" worship.  What do I mean by that? Well, big worship is when songs make people's mouths hang open so that they feel moved by the Holy Spirit. At least, that is how I picture it.

And, in some cases how it's received! All glory to our Lord!

So, tomorrow is a day of "big worship." In recognition of July 4th, the nation's Independence Day.

In fact, it amazes me that many if not all are found in our hymnal. The original patriotic songs are considered Christian hymns.

"Our Country 'tis of Thee"

"God Bless America"

"Battle Hymn of the Republic"

We' re opening with this one tomorrow.

All these songs that we know all too well.

They originate from a time when we knew to give God the glory for giving us our freedom.

Our pastor chose for us a song that the Gaither Vocal band covered years ago. It's a song that brings glory to God while bringing honor to our nation, and those who fought for our freedom.

I suppose in that way it follows any of the formulas of the previous patriotic song hymns!

Looking forward to sharing it with our congregation. Taking a big song (I mean BIG: a full orchestra, choir of men and women AND at least four professional singers taking the lead.)  Oh Boy! in our case, it will be Kevin on piano, our pastor on the drum (cajon) and just me singing!

So, will definitely be a tribute to the Gaither Brothers version. As well as a salute to our armed forces and Veterans, etc. And, most important of all, a tribute to our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Are you familiar with this song, "Let Freedom Ring" made famous by the Gaither vocal band? You can view any their performances of it on Youtube.

Do you have a favorite patriotic song? If so, what is it?

FUN FACT: From What happened to Bill and Gloria Gaither?

“The Gaithers are to Christian music what the Beatles are to pop music.” That’s how Bill and Gloria Gaither were introduced when the American Society of Composers, Artists and Publishers (ASCAP) named them “Songwriters of the Century.” Unquestionably, Christian music falls into two categories: Before Gaithers (B.G.)
