Our Greatest Love

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day.

The day when we celebrate what love is, who our loved ones are, and... well,

"Happy Valentine's day," I said to our congregation. " We're going to sing about God's love."

February is often known as the month of love, so what do we do but talk about those who love us, and the One who loves us the most... loved us enough to send His only son to die for us for our sins on the cross.

It's the greatest Valentine's gift of all time and it's available to anyone.

So, our set list today focused on just that --God's love and most importantly--His sacrifice and unending love.

We sang the old hymns " Jesus Paid It All" to begin the service and "There is a Redeemer", to close it out, as our invitation and altar call. In the middle, we sang "You Are My King (Amazing Love) " and "How Deep the Father's Love for Us" during the set.

At our rehearsal that morning, God laid it heavy on my heart for me to share the scripture about God taking the place of our sins and I read from Mark 15:25-33.

When Jesus called out to God, why have you forsaken me?  (The world turned dark, and God laid all sin upon His son, could not look upon Him.), corresponding with a line in our last song, "the father turned his face away."

Amen, Praise Jesus.

These are two of my favorite scriptures below, what about you?

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. (John 15:13)

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
