Praise the King

In our current women's Bible study, Trustworthy by Lisa TerKeurst we are learning about the kings God ordained to rule over Israel. And, it's only because Israel so badly wanted to be like all the other nations and have a human king for themselves; to them, God's rule was not enough.

So, in 1 & 2 Kings in the Old Testament we get to learn how God gave the Israelite's what they wanted, (a human king), and how these kings often strayed from giving God what He most wanted--what He desires today--full, wholehearted worship.

No, instead the kings strayed. They thought they could take things into their own hands---don't we all do this?

Sometimes, these kings would start out with a heart for God and be led astray by following after their own hearts. As in after a love for a  woman, (or in Solomon's case, many women).

And, so I shared this knowledge with our congregation last Sunday as we prepared to share with them our new song-- "Praise the King."

This week, thankfully, we are learning that some kings did actually did keep a heart after the Lord, King Jehoash, for example.

Fortunately, God sent His son Jesus to do what no human king could do: that was to follow God's will all the way through his life to his death and resurrection on the cross, and now He sits in heaven (and in our hearts) ruling at the right hand of the Father with all the power and authority that God has. This, this is why we praise the King;  King Jesus.

I'm starting to realize how much of the Bible correlates and points to God sending Jesus, which is the very gospel itself! God sent His only begotten Son so that through Him we might be saved.(John 3:16) We sinned long ago, we sin today, and God knows we are in need of a Savior before we leave this earth, so that by Him and through Him our souls will go to heaven, to be with God in eternity.
